I didn't much care for this idea when the Bush Administration came up with the idea - I don't like the idea of faith based group becoming dependent on the federal government for financial support. I like it even less now that it's being expanded to secular community activist groups. Our tax dollars will soon be flowing to political activists who will, in turn, be agitating for a more powerful state. This is how the game works with many government programs. Now this one is dressed up as "faith based".

"Instead of proclaiming the true gospel..."

Who gets to decide what is the "true gospel?" For the first 1500 years of church history only one organization (one man) decided for all of us.

I do not recognize the Christ of the New Testament in most of the contributions here. His ministry was focused on healing the sick, bringing sight to the blind, and feeding the hungry. Where there are individuals and organizations that are dedicated to that task (whether or not they labor under the aegis of the Christian Church) - they are the ones who earn my respect.

It is sad to think that government has any business being involved in interfaith dialogue.

Nuclear I can see your point , The interfaith organizations in my area promote political world views and little resect for religious faiths unless they meet their concept of inclussion.. I am still waiting and hoping this works . But mixing religion and government has a sad history I agree.

Wallis is a sellout to the State. Instead of proclaiming the true gospel, he's resigned to partnering with those in power to impose by force the society he wishes everybody would choose to live voluntarily. Unfortunately, Jesus didn't say "Follow me and drag people behind you."
