Voice of the Day: Alice Walker

Tell the truth, have you ever found God in church? I never did. I just found a bunch of folks hoping for [God] to show. Any God I ever felt in church I brought in with me. And I think all the other folks did too. They come to church to share God, not find God.

- Alice Walker
from her book The Color Purple

If you don't encounter God at a gathering of His people, you're at the wrong church. If you don't understand more about Him or His personality after worshiping Him, you're doing it wrong.

An atheist doesn't come to share a God he doesn't believe in when he checks out a church. Yes, there is a sharing of the knowledge and the love of God that goes on at a church, but each time we come to church, or worship God in any manner, we ought to come away with something we didn't bring. He's that big of a God.
