Photos: Rally for Immigration Reform -- Change Takes Courage and Faith

Here are some of my favorite shots from yesterday's massive immigration rally on the National Mall. To read more about it, here's a link to a press release from yesterday, and another from today's meeting of religious leaders with senior White House officials to discuss immigration policy.

I'm sure you're not a Christian since your heart is so hard.

When you have to feed to your family, you would do anything.

Besides, you claim to do it the "right way", what way?
When you go to apply for even a visitor's visa, the USA government charges them $100 for the privilege to "apply", if the visa gets denied, you don't get your money back. How about that being fair?
Much less a chance to get a green card or a visa to work temporarily in the USA.
And you are also wrong, migration is migration either legally or illegally.

So much hate in the world.

Excuse me, but the people who "climbed" the fence to get into this country broke our law and I don't feel the need to "reward" them with a path to citizenship. I would go out of my way to assist anyone who is working honestly to become a citizen, a person who did it the right way, applied for the visa, paperwork, paid a lawyer to become a citizen. I have no compassion for someone who broke the law. They didn't migrate here - they dodged the border patrol because they came ILLEGALLY.

I am so glad the faith community is engaging this issue in a straightforward way that points to God's heart for the poor, the sojourner. I talked to some of you on the phone while you were there on the mall and watched part of it on a CNN video feed on their website. The same morning I taught 120 high school students about God's heart of compassion through Biblical stories of people who migrated in faith to a land where they engaged in news lives as sojourners. God bless everyone who marched and lead the way to compassionate, comprehensive immigration reform that keeps families together and treats workers and other contributors to our society fairly and lovingly.
